DIY Ramen Noodle Dog Costume: From Cone of Shame to Bowl of Fame

Every dog parent knows the cone. The plastic "cone of shame" that comes home from the vet and makes your baby look like a sad little satellite dish. Well, this Halloween I looked at that cone and thought... what if it was a bowl? A ramen bowl. With noodles. On a Pomeranian.
I couldn't believe it worked. My two Poms, Kiwi and Xion, went from cone of shame to bowl of fame, and they took 3rd place" at Mutts & Martinis Dog Costume Contest. 🍜🐶

Where the idea came from
I can't take full credit for this one. I spotted a version of it on TikTok from [FILL IN: creator's name or @ellieandhudson] and immediately knew my dogs needed it. I put my own spin on it, then filmed the whole build so you can make one too.
What you'll need
Everything came from a local craft store and Amazon:
- Dog medical cones (the soft, flexible kind). These are the exact ones I used: shop them on Amazon
- Felt white (to turn the cone into a bowl), and black for the seaweed
- Yarn for the noodles: from Michaels [FILL IN: color/thickness]
- Hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks
- Foam Sheets white and yellow (for the eggs and fish cakes), green (for the scallions) and tan for the mushrooms
- Chop Sticks I got mine from my local Chinese store
- Hot glue gun and plenty of glue sticks
- Paint for the fish cake and other condiment details

I walk you through every step, from shopping for supplies to the final fitting, with a few hacks along the way that save you time (and glue burns).
How it comes together
The quick version, if you're the skim-then-watch type:
- Cover the cone with white felt so the outside reads as a bowl.
- Make the noodles. Use thick white or shell colored blanket yarn for the look
- Glue the noodles around inside the opening so they frame your pup's face like they're sitting right in the broth.
- Add the toppings. Use felt and foam sheets to create the scallions, egg, seaweed and mushrooms and other toppings of your choosing.
- Fit it on your dog and adjust before the glue fully sets, so it sits comfortably.

Contest day
On contest day at Mutt’s & Martinis, I entered both of my dogs into the Halloween costume contest They were among at least 30 other dogs that were dressed pretty cutely for the event. The moment they took the stage to do their walk and show off their costume for judgement, I heard all of the chatter about how creative the outfit was for the dogs. I was a little excited and optimistic to that they’d win…and they did. Third Place. I was so proud.
Tips before you make your own
- Size the cone to your dog first. A cone that fits right is a costume they'll actually tolerate.
- Keep the hot glue on the outside. Nothing sticky or sharp should touch fur or skin.
- Small or big dog, it works. Scale the noodles and toppings to the cone and every pup can be a ramen bowl. Let them get used to it. A few short "try it on" sessions with treats before the big day goes a long way.
If you make one, tag me @sincerelyisyss. I need to see your ramen pups in action!
